Got a Concrete Skull
Smashing enamel and finally making some progress
After chronicling my lifelong problems with teeth, and verbally shitting all over the last quack dentist in my life, I probably owe you good people an update on how that whole thing is going. I had my first real procedure at the new place, with the new guy, a couple days ago, and so far it’s gone better than I dared hope.
[TW: mouth stuff]
Before we could work on the two fixed bridges and the implants I need, we had to address an infection in the root of a front tooth – one I’d already had fixed years ago, of course. This was the issue the old guy never even noticed, and that my current dentist saw from the old guy’s X-rays. So it felt like we were starting from two steps behind the starting line already, which was a bit frustrating.
But you can’t mess around with infection in your mouth, especially not when you’re a heart patient. He said there was a chance they could go through the back, do the root canal, and not have to redo the crown, which would turn a $1,000 procedure into $200 and save some time and heartache… but “we won’t know till we get in there.” That’s a pretty ominous thing to hear from someone on your first meeting.
