A quick note before I hit the road
This weekend’s going to be hectic as can be. I’m hitting yard sales Friday morning, then getting on the road for an early drive to La Porte, Indiana, where some good friends of mine from high school live. My buddy works nights so we have to get an early dinner and some hang time in, and then I’m crashing in their spare bedroom to avoid the gross hotel I stayed at last time in Benton Harbor.
That’s where Saturday’s show is, and while this venue’s been hit or miss for me, I’m probably the most prepared I’ve ever been for a show there, and I’m coming off my best sales day ever in Detroit two weekends ago. So I’ve got high hopes that as this show continues to find its audience, we get some southwest Michigan folks to come out for the first time to raid the boxes.
I’m also hoping to bug out a little early, because I have to get back to Toledo for an 8:00 Herb Alpert concert. I’ve discussed my unironic love for the Tijuana Brass in these dispatches before, so I’ll just say that it still doesn’t seem real that sixty years after the release of Whipped Cream and Other Delights, I’m being given an opportunity to see the 91-year-old Alpert put on a show.
